What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is short for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. The NDIS is an innovative way to provide services for people with disability. The NDIS promotes greater choice and control for people with disability and their families.

To be eligible for the NDIS you need to have a permanent and significant disability that effects your ability to take part in everyday activities. If you are eligible for the NDIS, you will be assisted to identify your goals and needs, and an individual funding package will be allocated to you to purchase the supports you require.

Unlike the previous system of disability funding the NDIS also supports people with a psychosocial disability, which is a term used to describe a disability arising from a mental health issue.

Check your eligibility

Your eligibility for the NDIS is determined by several factors, including age, residential status and disability requirements. Your eligibility will be assessed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the government body responsible for administering the NDIS. To check your eligibility, click here.

Meet with a consultant and develop your plan

Firstly, youll have a meeting with the NDIA to develop your plan. The NDIA will look at what services youre currently utilising and your individual requirements. Your plan will be based on your objectives, needs and goals, as well as the support and services that will best suit you moving forward. We can definitely help you prepare for this meeting.

Bring your action plan to life

The finalised plan will be put into action, by this we mean selecting the best provider(s) and support workers, managing your fund and implementing your ongoing plan, among many things.
